GLORIOUS ABUNDANCE

When London's A –list need flowers, they make a bee-line for Rob Van Helden.

Hard to believe but Pierce Brosnan and Elton John have something in common – they have both used florist Rob Van Helden, Brosnan at his wedding, John at his White Tie and Tiara Ball. What's Van Helden's secret? 'I like designs to look natural and not contrived' he says. 'I like to work with a mass of one type of flowers to mirror the way they grow in the wild and I often use herbs, fruit and vegetables.'

The Dutch-born florist was bewitched by the beauty of flowers from an early age. For Van Helden, summer entertaining means a feast, a glorious array of wine, food – and, of course, flowers. For the table displays pictured here, he used hydrangeas, white and blue hyacinths and white blossom, bundled together with rosemary sprigs, hand-tied with raffia.
